THE STORY: A faithful, slightly simplified retelling of the classic fairy tale.
Evil fairies steal a magic mirror and fly off with it, but it shatters, and a sliver falls to where the boy Kay is playing. It enters his heart, turning it to ice as he rejects his long time playmate Gerda and, instead, is recruited by the Snow Queen to live in her forbidding Ice Palace.
Gerda sets out on a long journey to rescue him, meeting robbers and a Reindeer along the way. The Reindeer helps her to get past the threatening Dancing Snowflakes, and at last she reaches the Ice Palace.
Kay rejects her, but then at the last moment recognises her, and they escape together, despite the best efforts of the Snow Queen. They return triumphant to the village, where celebrations are held in their honour.
